In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial.
The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state --
"Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it."
And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on,
"Bring a snack or somethin' too.
The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks.
"Well, have at it. You've got till nine."
And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck.
Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. They won't be let out of the room until 9PM when voting ends. Every character must vote and the voting post can be found here.

THE BODY
They're all sort of... piled on top of each other on the table in the side room. Chane on the bottom. Elizabeth next. Russell and Yuna on top. Then the bits of Ana are just piled on for the rest of it.
Honestly, it looks a bit unstable. ]

Xion will head in here with Jason, and she seems ... vaguely grossed out, but not too much bothered otherwise. ]
We should separate them so we can see everyone better. ... I wish I had my gloves ...
no subject
Regardless of whether she takes them or not, he'll start separating the corpses one by one. Anna's Pieces will get put aside for a moment until they're both ready to start building this corpse Jigsaw. Considering there's only one gurney, though, the corpses might be... getting placed on the floor. Gently. SORRY.
Either way, he looks at Xion — as if asking her what corpse she wants to start with. Jason will lift do all the heavy lifting, so no worries.]
no subject
[ She'll end up doing it barehanded. Which for many reasons is beyond disgusting, but she gives no sign beyond wrinkling her nose. She operates one handed, due to her other being occupied with her crutch, so she can only help so much, anyway. Collecting Ana's Pieces, and helping figure out where to put all these bodies. ]
We should start with Russell. Milla brought up his murder, so let's see if we can find anything out.
no subject
Ah, well.
He inspects the gunshot wound first. Does it look like the gun was pressed against Russell's forehead when the shot was fired, or was there so distance between him and his killer? It might not be a bad idea for Xion to, uh, undress him to make sure there's nothing else while he checks out the wound. S...orry...]
no subject
Undressing him will give her a chance to subtly wipe her hands off on his clothes. So actually, that's kind of a win.
You watch enough of your friends die, you kind of stop giving a fuck about anything, alright?
But yeah, that's what she'll do. ]
Can you lift him a little?
[ And, given that, she'll strip off his shirt. Is there anything here to see? ]

Doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary there, apparently. Though Jason will check under the pants for a second just for the sake of being thorough. Not that he expects to find anything, considering Russell was at the stocks all night.
Glancing at her once again, he cocks an eyebrow. Which corpse should he bring up next, buddy?]
no subject
Elizabeth. I want to see if we can figure anything else out about how she died and maybe how she got to the post office. I still have the matches I found on her body yesterday.
no subject
Since the bag is still on her head, Jason will try to remove that as gently as humanly possible. Assuming he succeeds, is there anything of note on the front, sides and back of her head? Besides the obvious extra crispiness, of course.]

Xion will leave off her own careful examination of the body when it's clear there's nothing to find. ]
So someone probably hit her to knock her out, and then... [ Did. All the rest of that. ]
Should we move on?
[ you pick this time buddy ]
no subject
Since Ana is in pieces, he moves to pick Chane's body by default. It's his first time seeing it, and he definitely regrets not being in their room on Thursday night, but— ah. There's nothing to be done about that, as much as he hates it.
He'll start by methodically checking those bruises and all that blood. Does the blood belong to her, or does it seem like it came from someone else? And for that matter, any way to tell what kind of object the bruises were caused by?]
no subject
[ Said. Very quietly. She finds this body hard to look at, for the first time. ]
no subject
He gives her a questioning look, stopped halfway through checking the body over. He can't voice this out, but his question is pretty damn obvious: How do you know?
Because even though inspecting the body might have revealed that, Xion is kind of... avoiding looking at Chane.]
no subject
There are two prominent head injuries, one at the temple specifically and the rest are just bruises and scrapes mostly on her arms and face. It's easy to tell by someone who knows what they're looking for that these are fight injuries. Combat.
One of her hands is also burned and there's a swell of blood as Jason opens her mouth -- apparently she bit her tongue. ]
no subject
Her arms and her face... she fought someone. [ She's fought her whole life... she'd recognize injuries like that anywhere. ]
Maybe the shovel was just used to kill her?
[ ... she seems reluctant to answer Jason's unspoken but obvious question. She'll offer, after a pause: ]
Someone told me.
no subject
Well.
He's definitely furrowing his brows at Xion, face pinched as he gestures for her to elaborate. Who told her? Is she covering up for Chane's murderer? Come on.]
no subject
[ ... ]
no subject
He also mouths: Are you sure?
What the fuck, Xion.]
no subject
no subject
Bonfire.
Or any other kind of open fire, really. But at least it wasn't an item.]
no subject
I think that's all we'll find out from Chane. That leaves...
[ ... Ana's bits, which she glances at with a small frown. ]
no subject
...it's still just as gross as I remember. Go rest your leg, Xion. Jason and I can take it from here. [Because...may as well examine with the other bat, apparently.]
no subject
Once she's left, he sighs and gestures for Percy to help him start arranging the body parts on the gurney. It's time to play some corpse jigsaw, buddy.]
