It's... quiet. The morning is quiet and dull and even the animals lingering on the fringes of town seem a bit at a loss for what to do. The town as a whole seems to be waiting and it isn't until the Sheriff leaves the station carrying a wooden gibbet easily in his arms that things seem to perk up. He drops it into the dirt, shoves it in with a grunt and then heads back into the station.
A few moments later Higekiri follows him out, leashed to him by a rope binding his hands and a blindfold around his eyes. In the Sheriff's other hand is a bucket. He brings them to the stick and drops the bucket upside down on the ground, helping him to stand up on it and pulling the noose around his neck a moment after. He uses the excess of rope around his hands to bind him to the stick.
He turns back to the town after, glancing at the few stray animals that have set up on the porches to watch. A crow nearby caws out from on top of the Saloon sign. The Sheriff looks to the hotel and a moment later, the bells on top of the church begin to ring. He calls out, louder than naturally possible,
"Execution time, folks! Sara Valestein has been chosen as executioner. Come on down and watch."
And then, as indifferent as ever, he pops a piece of tobacco.
[ Sara's pretty darn tight-lipped if you catch her out and about-- which is to say, first she's lugging Higekiri's body to the graveyard because he, at least, has a grave there, and after that, she'll be retrieving his sword to figure out just who the hell is getting it. Which equates to just sitting on one of the many abandoned porches with it, and looking as though she's thoroughly considering a nap.
[Milla catches Sara while she's sitting on one of those porches and takes a seat next to her. as promised, she has a bottle of porange wine and two beer mugs in her hand]
[she fills both mugs to the brim without a word, and offers Sara one of them]
[lapses back into silence as she throws her head back to take a large gulp of her own drink. she doesn't speak again, deciding to let Sara say what's on her mind if she chooses to do so]
[cradles her drink in her lap, eyes slipping shut]
It angers me as well. I don't like the feeling of being toyed with, and the tragedies of the past two weeks just make it worse.
[a beat]
I've never truly been good at comforting those in distress, but. . .
[with that as her only warning, she. leans in. and slides an arm around Sara's shoulders. IT'S CUDDLE TIME. I'm sorry Sara. this worked on the young teenage girls certainly it works on adult women too, right??]
[Yuna is quiet and timid when she approaches, hands held at her chest, still shaken by everything that's happened. It hasn't got anything to do with Sara herself; she's just a bundle of anxiety at the moment.]
About Higekiri-san... [The body, she means; she saw Sara haul it off.] I don't think we should bury him. Mister Sheriff is just going to dig him up again, and it's not right. Do you think we could cremate him ourselves? And Sagihara-san, too... If we cover them and start our own fire...
[It's not much, but it's better than digging graves up and dismembering corpses???]
somehow, this time? it's noct trying to lighten the mood a bit.]
Pretty sure now's about the time when a drink is called for. [though maybe it's just because he's concerned after what happened and thinks maybe she needs to unwind a bit.]

It's one way, yes. Certainly not an ideal way. [a pause] Are you. . . all right?

Not really... but it can't be helped, either. A game that turns us against each other like this really pisses me off.

[ UH. ]
I mean, the whole "chugging wine" plan was working just fine--
[ IS SHE BEING CUDDLED THIS IS WEIRD ]

That tactic seems to work on some people, but not others. [HMMMM] Mostly young teenage women like Yuna and Papika.
[there's a pattern, here]
Forgive me; next time I'll just stick to drinks.

[ What a world she's in now where 14-year-olds are asking to burn bodies. ]
Are you sure, Yuna? Either way, it won't be pretty.

[The place is gonna have to smell like burning corpse for a day regardless MAY AS WELL GET IT OUTTA THE WAY]
